Metabolite Identification
Common Nametrans-2,4-Nonaidenal
DescriptionNona-trans-2-trans-4-dien-1-al belongs to the class of organic compounds known as medium-chain aldehydes. These are an aldehyde with a chain length containing between 6 and 12 carbon atoms. Thus, nona-trans-2-trans-4-dien-1-al is considered to be a fatty aldehyde lipid molecule. Nona-trans-2-trans-4-dien-1-al is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, Nona-trans-2-trans-4-dien-1-al is found, on average, in the highest concentration within corns. Nona-trans-2-trans-4-dien-1-al has also been detected, but not quantified in, tea. This could make nona-trans-2-trans-4-dien-1-al a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
