These are ketones containing a hydroxyl group attached to the beta-carbon atom, relative to the C=O group. 3-dehydrosphinganinium(1+) is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). A cationic sphingoid that is the conjugate acid of 3-dehydrosphinganine; major species at pH 7.3.
