Metabolite Identification
Common NameN-isovaleryl-L-homoserine lactone
DescriptionN-isovaleryl-L-homoserine lactone belongs to the class of organic compounds known as n-acyl-alpha amino acids and derivatives. N-acyl-alpha amino acids and derivatives are compounds containing an alpha amino acid (or a derivative thereof) which bears an acyl group at its terminal nitrogen atom. Thus, N-isovaleryl-L-homoserine lactone is considered to be a fatty amide. N-isovaleryl-L-homoserine lactone is a secondary metabolite. Secondary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically non-essential metabolites that may serve a role as defense or signalling molecules. In some cases they are simply molecules that arise from the incomplete metabolism of other secondary metabolites. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on N-isovaleryl-L-homoserine lactone.
