Metabolite Identification
Common NameL-Lyxopyranose
DescriptionL-lyxopyranose, also known as L-lyxose, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pentoses. These are monosaccharides in which the carbohydrate moiety contains five carbon atoms. It is a C'-2 carbon epimer of the sugar xylose. Lyxose occurs only rarely in nature, for example, as a component of bacterial glycolipids. L-lyxopyranose is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Lyxose is an aldopentose — a monosaccharide containing five carbon atoms, and including an aldehyde functional group.
